| The aquatic ecosystem provides not only resource materials, but also services for the people. With the developing economy and the growing population, requirements for the water resource are increasing. The limited water resource in the earth leads to some environmental issues and is breaking the structure and function of the ecosystem. So assessment of the aquatic ecosystem function is useful for recognizing the value of the water and rationally using it. Qinghe basin, Liaohe basin of Liaoning province are chosen as the research region in this paper. The aquatic ecosystem function is classified and the candidate indices are selected. The function is evaluated and the major factors are identified using Principal Component Analysis, entropy methods and correlation analysis.There are totally seven main parts in this paper. Firstly, the background, purpose, progress, contents and roadmap of the study are introduced. Secondly, the aquatic ecosystem and the function, services of it are identified, also the concept and category of the aquatic ecosystem function are determined. Thirdly, principles of selecting candidate indices and theory, model, steps of the way explained. From the fourth part to the sixth part, the aquatic ecosystem function is evaluated and the major factors of the research zoon identified. The seventh part, results and suggestions are given.The results showed that:(1) Aquatic ecosystem functions are classified into four types: regulation function , habitat function, production function and information function. Based on the situation and principles, a system of candidate indices is set.(2) Qinghe basin organizes candidate indices include 16 factors. Research shows that information function was stronger than production function, regulation function and habitat function. Major factors are water quality pollution index, benthic diversity index, algae diversity, GDP, grain output, aquatic production, greening rate and tourism revenue. (3) Liaohe basin of LiaoNing province organizes candidate indices include 20 factors. Research shows that production function was stronger than information function, habitat function and regulation function. Major factors are forest cover, the total reservoir capacity, benthic diversity index, the number of people, grain output, GDP, the output value of agriculture, forestry, animal husbandry and fishery, tourism revenue, greening rate and the number of park.(4) Liaohe basin organizes candidate indices include 6 factors. totally, production function was stronger than information function, habitat function and regulation function. Major factors are the number of people, GDP and tourism revenue. |
