Folk Environmental Awareness In Southwest China From The Perspective Of Local Pledges Inscriptions (from The Year 1638 To 1949)

Because of that the gross-roots people's activities have an direct influence on environmental transition.therefore,their environmental awareness have an important effect on environmental transition.And therefore,to study the folk environmental awareness is conductive to intensive study of environmental transition. Nowadays,it is a weak link of the study of environmental transition that from the perspective of local pledges inscriptions.I research from the local pledges inscriptions exsit in southwest China. Analysing the material with combined measures of statistics, econometric analysis and literature. I have concluded that: environmental awareness can be divided into two parts-positive environmental awareness and negative environmental awareness. Spatial differentiation of the folk environmental awareness existed in different areas of Southwest China. The folk environmental awareness in Yunnan-guizhou area is stronger than that in Ba-Shu area. The folk environmental awareness in hilly region is stronger than those in mountain area and plains. The strength of the folk environmental awareness in Southwest China had been strengthened step by step at the beginning,and then fell back in the history. Both inside and outside of Southwest China,the folk environmental awareness got to high-tideperiod at the same time, and both of them are bound up with environmental transition. Both the behavioral motive and the force of constraint of the environmental behavior between the populace and local government are different.According to my study on folk environmental awareness, I discovered that the strength of folk environmental awareness having been bounded up with population size and mode of production. War, terrain, religion, custom, social organizations are all have an important effect on folk environmental awareness.
