The Cultural Connotation And The Modern Value Of Chinese Auspicious Patterns' Usage On Furniture

This thesis researched the cultural connotation and the modern value of Chinese auspicious patterns on furniture. Beginning from analyzing the cultural connotation, it explained the deep content of the patterns in successive dynasties of China and introduced the mix of the patterns and the furniture. By interpreting the designs of decorating, the thesis found out the ways of decorating Chinese furniture. By analyzing the different mentalities of designing in the social customs, it has inspired the new theories of design to fulfil the demands of the present day and to realize the present values of Chinese auspicious patterns'usage on furniture.In the first chapter, this thesis briefly outlined the aim of writing. By explaining the history of Chinese auspicious patterns and furniture, the second chapter of the thesis explored the origins and meanings of Chinese auspicious patterns. It studied the mix of Chinese auspicious patterns and furniture. The third chapter illustrated that the significance of Chinese auspicious patterns'application on furniture. It illustrated from two aspects, such as the economic values of Chinese auspicious patterns'application on furniture and stimulating the development of furniture manufacture. The fourth chapter heavily explored the culture connotations of Chinese auspicious patterns'usage on furniture. This chapter expressed four aspects of Chinese cultural meaning, that is, the meaning of symbolic ideas, the meaning of aesthetic appreciation, the meaning of decorating and the meaning of communication. The 5th chapter heavily studied that the present values of Chinese auspicious patterns'usage. It explored the ways of the present values of Chinese auspicious patterns'usage through the connotation and innovations of Chinese auspicious patterns'usage.By analyzing the cultural meaning and the present values of Chinese auspicious patterns'usage on furniture, the thesis explored the ways of design in directing the future development of furniture. Exploring the compatible character and the character of correlation, the thesis tries to study the aspects of the social life, such as the social politics, the art and the idea of humanism. The thesis looks upon the result of Chinese auspicious patterns'usage from the point of view of the philosophy and sociology. To explore the new ideas of furniture developing, it explored the rational mentality and presented examples of Chinese auspicious patterns'usage to provide the basis.
