The design problems of special purpose milling machine used for clearing the residue of aluminum liquid container are studied in this paper. With the theory of metal cutting, a motion structure of complex milling cutters with cutting inclination angles and planetary motion which is suitable for the special purpose milling machine used for clearing aluminum liquid container is presented for the first time. The problems such as the range of cutting inclination angle, the range of spiral ascending angle and the power match of planetary transmission are analyzed and determined. The three dimensional modeling, and finite element intensity analysis of the structure are performed with CAE technology.Based on the structural formation of the liquid aluminum container, the distribution and the shape of the residue, the technical material and data of similar machine and close mechanic equipment are collected in this paper at first. Six overall projects are proposed, analyzed and discussed. Taking advantages of the computer three-dimensional modeling and kinematics simulation, the overall project is determined at last. With the theory of metal cutting, two big milling cutters which are rotate around the structural body with self-rotation are adopted in this special purpose milling machine to cut the residue in the bottom and surface of the container. A small milling cutter that is off center of gyration is placed for the use of cleaning the central part when cutting the bottom. The rotation of the shaft and cutters is propelled by hydraulic motor respectively. The container is tied tightly on the working bench by two steel bands through hydraulic cylinder and the motion of the bench is realized through guide screw propelled by servo system.In the process of designing, the advantages of using three cutters are analyzed, the diameter, the position and the inclination angles of the cutters are determined, the cutting force is calculated by researching the milling ways. According to the request of two hour's limitation for cleaning one container, approaching speed of the container, revolution and rotation speed of the cutters and power needed are calculated, the plans for their match are proposed, the respective speed is determined by the criterion of equal input power.Finally, with the advantages of CAE, the finite element analysis of the tumbling body is performed; the optimal improvement of the spare parts is carried out by the analysis and' treatment of the analytical results. The modal shapes and natural frequencies of milling machine are solved to find out the basic vibration structure and supply the data for avoidance of resonance.Special purpose milling machine designed in this paper has great significance on improving the quality of cleaning, reducing the intensity of working and decreasing the cost of manufacturing for its novel structure and high working efficiency.
