With the rapid development of plastics industry, both the quantity demanded and quality of large plastic products were sustained increased and required high standards, which lead to the design efficiency and quality of injection mold highly demanded more and more.There are many differences in mold cavity design requirements of large injection mold and small and medium injection mold due to the size differences by means of the comparative analysis of structure features and design methods of injection mold. By now, there is little information about design criterion of large injection mold cavity thickness. Moreover, the design technology of large injection mold was kept secret in each enterprise because of the patent restrictions and the fierce market competition. So, it is essential to establish design criterion of large injection mold cavity thickness. In this paper, in order to obtain the design reference value of large injection mold cavity thickness and establish design criterion of large injection mold cavity thickness, the UG/CAE modular was used to calculate and analyze the large injection mold cavity thickness based on using UG/CAD modular in mold structural modeling.First, the amount of theory elasticity deformation of circular and rectangular plastic injection mold cavity model was calculated by using elasticity mechanical theory in this research. Then, the maximum displacement value of cavity wall in maximum deformation place was obtained by make use of UG/CAE module to model's analogue simulation analysis. The results show that the stiffness analogue simulation results of UG/CAE modular are credible by means of comparing theoretical calculation results to analogue simulation results.The structural modeling of turnover box injection mold which designed and manufactured by some company was carried out using UG/CAD. Then, it was introduced into UG/CAE modular to analogue simulation analysis and verified whether the cavity thickness meets the stiffness conditions with the help of simulation analysis results. Thus, the design criterion of large injection mold cavity thickness was introduced.The design criterion of cavity thickness stiffness was applied into the design calculation of three rectangles cavity thickness and then the UG simulation value; empirical formula and boundary value are comparative analyzed. It is concluded that the design criterion of large injection mold cavity thickness has feasibility, reliability and versatility.The design method of large injection mold by adopting UG software and the introduced design criterion of large injection mold cavity wall stiffness in this paper will have a certain reference value for rapid design of large injection mold cavity thickness.
