According to the field survey of the Dongjiang Basin, the paper analysed the monitoring data based on laboratory experiments, The conventional indexes were evaluated using single-factor assessment and comprehensive assessment. The distributions and classification of heavy metal pollutants in Dongjiang River was determined based on two methods, index of geo-accumulation and potential ecological risk index, respectively.Then a series of batch adsorption experiments were conducted to study the possible impact between poly-aromatic hydrocarbons and heavy metals on their adsorption.Analysis on river quality indicated that,the contents of TN,NH3-N and COD were beyond respective national water standard of class V at most samples. The comprehensive index was between 0.5~0.7, which showed that Dongjiang River had been light or medium polluted.Assessment on heavy metals pollution indicated that,The concentrations of Cu,Zn were higher than the background value,The concentrations of Pb,Zn and Cu in E sampled district were higher than other districts.The concentrations of Cd in A sampled district were higher than others. Dongjiang sediments had been polluted by heavy metals CU,Zn,Mn and Cd.The adsorption characteristics of Cu on Dongjiang River sediments were investigated when phe existed. The results showed that the Langmuir equation described the adsorption isothermswell whether the phe existed or not.Rapid adsorption played the main role in the adsorption of Cu on DongJiang River sediments. The adsorption capacity reduced when phe existed.The adsorption characteristics of phe on DongJiang River sediments when Cu existed were investigated. The influences of temperature varied on the adsorption of phe were also studied. The results showed that the influence of the existing of Cu on the laws of the adsorption dynamics and the adsorption thermodynamics of phe on Dongjiang River sediments was small,and rapid adsorption played the main role in the adsorption of phe on Dongjiang River sediments.Freundlich equation described the adsorption isotherms well which indicated that the adsorption of phe on Dongjiang River sediments was multi-molecular layer adsorption.
