| In recent years, with the development of biocomposite, it is more and more important to measure the bast fiber such as flax, hemp, etc. However, at present people often use the methods and standards of measurement applied to cotton, hemp, wool and other fibers due to the lack of measurement methods for bast fiber. In this paper, the most suitable measurement methods for bast fiber were selected for the six important fiber characteristics. The tenacity of bast fiber will have large influence on the final mechanical properties of the textile material. In this paper, flax, hemp and hemp no retting were researched with the Stelometer, which is the classical, popular instrument for Fiber Bundle Strength Test. This article used the hand-pull method and the fiber carding machine, found that for efficiency and effectiveness,4-6 times of hand-pulling and 4-6 times of steel comb was the optimum method for the fiber bundle preparation.9/cm was found as the minimum density of needle if you wanted a relative stability result. Excessive combing could cause structural damage to the fibers, which affected the lower tenacity, higher elongation and higher strength CV values. So sample preparation methods and avoiding fiber damage is very important to Stelometer. The measure parameters of Stelometer are important. By studying the influence of different scale range of strength to the result, I found that when the range value of breaking strength increased, the mass of fiber bundle increased, but the strength, extension at break and CV values declined. Through the study, a general linear relationship was found between the fiber breaking strength and the mass. With the increase of the fiber bundle mass, the strength had a trend of decline, and the elongation had also a downward trend. I found that when the fiber mass was 1.5-2.5mg, corresponding to a strength range of 5-7kg, the result was less discrete and more stability.Pressley Clamp state had great influence on the results. The obvious scratches on the old clamp would cause lower tenacity and higher extension at break. The strength and CV values measured by the 1/8 inch gauge were smaller than the 0 gauge, but it was the better choice. Compared to other materials, bast fiber was suitable for bio-composite for its higher tenacity and lower extension at break.Bundle fiber strength measurement is very suitable for bast fiber. As a classical instrument, Stelometer still has much room to develop in the measuring of hemp, flax, etc. |
