The Research On Furniture Design Based On Its Functional Significance

The functional significance of furniture is an important aspect of furniture significance. Excavating and broadening functional significance of furniture will not only enrich the furniture theories, but also benefit to furniture design.Based on the main types of furniture, a comparative study and generalize study are carried out. The functional significance is summarized mainly in three aspects: Furniture shows its practical functional significance as daily necessities; furniture functional significance as an artistic medium and coordinating functions of furniture.The analysis of appearance, physical and chemical, processing prosperity of materials proves that selecting material based on functional significance of furniture should fully grasp the material's characteristics, highlight the expressiveness of color and texture of materials and emphasize the maximization of characteristics of the various aspects of material. This paper proceeds an analysis of the way to realize furniture structure as a start point, makes study on the form and feature of furniture structure then points out that designing furniture structure based on functional significance should make the best to optimize the structure technical performance, meanwhile, seeking to its conciseness, beauty and innovation. The methods of analysis and synthesis have been used in the study on modeling elements and forms of function, color and ornament. It is proved that designing furniture form based on functional significance should comply with the people-oriented design principles and express human wish and the inherent characteristics of different culture via the form of furniture. After the study of function coordination of furniture, it includes two aspects: the coordination between furniture function and the matching objects of furniture; furniture functional coordinate with the environment.
