Entada phaseoloides (L.) Merr. is a herbaceous plant of Leguminosae family, widely distributed through the southern parts of China, such as Fujian, Guangdong, Guangxi, Yunnan, Hainan, Taiwan, et al. Its stems and barks are used as medicine and it is cool-natured, has a bitterness and astringent taste. It has the effectiveness of expelling Wind and removing Dampness, activating blood circulation and freeing channel. The herb is used alone or mixed by other herbs in the folk medical history and it is made to cure rheumatoid arthritis, tetraplegia, traumatic injury, and so on.The paper firstly reviewed domestic and international research progress on the chemical constituent and bioactivity of Entada phaseoloides (L.) Merr.. Based on this, the present situation and exploiting prospect of the resources of Entada phaseoloides were analyzed. We investigated the effect on the extraction yield of different extraction technology, such as dipping, circumfluence, microwave-assisted method and ultrasonic method, and different extraction solvents, such as methanol and water. The results were compared and the quality of the methanol extract by circumfluence was considerably superior, because of its higher extraction yield 17.3±0.3% (w/w).We eluted the methanol and water extracts by different solvents, such as petrol ether, ethyl acetate, n-butanol, et al. Preparative test was used to these eluted parts to research the chemical constituent of the stem bark of Entada phaseoloides, to provide the foundation for the designs of separating scheme on the different active components. From the methanol extract, seven compounds were isolated: dotriacontanol(S1),β-sitosterol(S2), epicatechin(S3), gallicin(S4), gallic acid(S5), 5,6,7,5'- tetramethoxy -3',4'-methylenedioxyflavone(S6) and daucosterol(S7). These compounds were first isolated from this plant and their structures were determined by spectroscopic technology.
