The Influence Of Furniture Colors On Children's Visual Sensibility

Children's furniture is closely related to children's activities, and they have great impact on the children's everyday life. Research has shown that the colors can directly affect the shapes of children's furniture, and they can potentially affect the children's daily behavior. Therefore when one designs the colors of the children's furniture, one shall consider not only the aesthetic aspects, but also psychological aspects of the children.The objective of this research is that by getting close to a children's life, using child psychology and color psychology, investigate the influence of furniture colors on children's visual sensibility. The research consists of three stages which are described as follows. The first stage involves studying the current furniture market, visiting several furniture stores in Nanjing, exploring the current trend of the children's furniture colors, and then gathering information on color psychology.Secondly, surveys were made on children's family life and child psychology. By using the 3~7 year old quality table we have made the children into 4 characteristic types, namely easy-to raise, difficult-to-raise, slow-initiation and mediocre. In the group of children that were surveyed, the easy-to-raise was 20.1%, difficult-to-raise was 19.8%, slow-initiation was 7.0%, mediocre easy-to-raise was 42.2%, and mediocre difficult-to-raise was 10.9%. It was found that furniture colors have major impact on children's characteristic development in their family life.The last stage of the research was field study at a local kinder garden in Nanjing. The purpose of the field study is to study the children's color cognition skills, and by showing them color maps find their recognition range of the colors. The children were given some samples of the wooden furniture, and pictures of some identical furniture with different colors. And we can then analyze the imaginary picture of the children developed from furniture colors.
