For many years, carbon black and silica are the most important reinforcing agents of rubber. As the lack of energy and the rise of petroleum price in recent years, people have paid more and more attention to inorganic filler which was the substitute of palygorskite, it has a lower price and perfect physical and chemical properties. Through surface modification, palygorskite probably can replace carbon black and silica as functional reinforcing agent which show potential market prospects in rubber industry.The topics mainly use palygorskite clay as raw material, through purifying then uses modified palygorskite as a reinforcing agent in rubber, while testing the mechanical properties of rubber prepared. The results show as follows:with the use of organic modified palygorskite as rubber reinforcing agent is feasible technically, the modified palygorskite has better reinforcement effect, which can replace silica and partially replace carbon black as a rubber reinforcing agent Research was organically modified palygorskite Modified palygorskite was characterized by FT-IR FT-IR showed that silane coupling agent Si69 to chemical bonding in a manner that the surface of organic palygorskite long chain ; expansion times, total organic carbon and organic dispersion experiments show that modified the surface properties of palygorskite from hydrophilic to hydrophobic, the dispersion in organic solvents markedly enhanced. analysis, swelling volume, total organic carbon and dispersion experiment The optimum process parameters of organically modified palygorskite about this research are as follows: atmospheric pressure, the temperature is 70℃, first use CTAB then use KH-570 get a better effect. The dosage of modifier is CTAB 2 wt %, and KH-570 10wt%, the time of modifying is 60min.we get the optimum process parameters of reinforcing natural rubber are: using cationic surfactants and silane coupling agent together as modifier, and the dosage amount is respectively 2% and 10%, fill quantity for natural rubber is the portion of 40.In contrast, the production has a better effect on practical application, this research process just need lower cost and has a better economic benefit.
