The reactor is an important equipment in the process of toluene to mononitrotoluene, accurate simulation of reactor is significant to instruct both the design and the operation of the production process, but the universality dynamic simulation technology of nitration reactor has seldom been discussed at present.This paper describes the process of toluene to mononitrotoluene of a chemical plant, and researches the nitration reactors. The mechanism of toluene to mononitrotoluene and the number of independent reactions and reaction rate type was studied,based on the reasonable assumption that the models of the reactors were established and a dynamic simulation program module was developed for simulating the processes of starting and stopping, and the operations under normal and abnormal conditions. The simulation results of steady state meet the design requirements, and the dynamic process could predict the changing trend, which prove that the models can simulate the process perfectly.Operating properties of the nitration reactors were studied by simulation and the most appropriate conditions were found.The models of the reactors not only can be used for the control method of reactors, but also for developing whole flow emulator.
