The research prepared by seed emulsion polymerization method of making a kind of sand-fixing and dust suppressant which has a good water-solubility. The dust-depressor is the terpolymer of vinyl acetate(referred to as VAC), methyl metacrylate(referred to as MMA) and butyl acrylate(referred to as BA). The dust suppressants can be used to inhibit the mines, docks, dusty construction sites, which can also be combined with vegetation for dust control fixing. This research of the topic has the very vital significance to environmental protection and pollution control.The synthetic method and technological conditions have been discussed in the paper, the influence of the mass ratio of three kind of monomer, the amount of protective colloid and initiator, the amount and ratio of emulsifier were studied. The results showed that:the mass ratio of vinyl acetate: methyl methacrylate:butyl acrylate is 16:8:6, with 3.5%and 0.8% of total monomers of protective colloid and initiator,3% mass content of total emulsifier (Anionic:Non-ionic is 1:2), which is the superior technological conditions. The water-soluble product has the moderate viscosity which can meet the requirements of sand and better dust suppression effect.The physical and chemical nature of the sand-fixing and dust suppressant was characterized in this thesis, which mainly to test the viscosity, solid content, surface tension determination, FTIR analysis, TG test, SEM and TEM analysis. The results showed that:the viscosity of dust suppressants changed little at different temperatures and different storage time; The surface tension experiment indicates that the surface tension of water drops after adding dust suppressants;FTIR analysis was used for testing the feature group of the products; Differential thermal analysis was characterized that the dust suppressants has good thermal stability between room temperature to 210℃; TEM was used to characterize the particle size of the product at different storage time by the spread - networking - decentralized process of change; SEM was used to observe the shape characteristic of the sand shell which formed a link between the dust suppressants and sand. The sand-fixing and dust suppressant can meet the requirements of sand and dust applications.The application performanceof the sand-fixing and dust suppressant was characterized in this thesis also, respectively studied water retention, anti-erosion resistance, erosion resistance, temperature resistance and permeability and so on. The results showed that: the sand mold sprayed with different solid content of dust suppressants has some water-retention capacity, the surface consolidated layer of sand has better water resistant washout and anti-wind erosion performance,sand mold has a certain compressive strength, and still showed a better performance either in severe cold or high temperature climate conditions,The experimental results showed that the dust suppressants has a good fixing agent application performance.Developed in this paper the sand-fixing and dust suppressant, a kind of versatile polymer material, can prevent wind, sand and dust and meet the requirements of sand fixation and dust and environmentally friendly. It has broad application prospects.
