Through adjusting cutting parameters, wood products can obtain better cutting surface quality which may improve processing quality and reduce processing cost in wood machining process. Surface quality of sanded wood pieces has significant effect on the subsequent processing such as gluing and finishing. This study takes surface properties of sanded wood pieces as research object and tries to seek the relationship among sanding parameters, surface quality of sanded wood pieces and bonding strength by changing sanding parameters. It can provide guidance for practical production. This paper analyzed the main parameters affecting surface roughness of sanded wood pieces by orthogonal test. The results show that the principal factor is the granularity of abrasive belt. Then factors of surface roughness, contact angle and the number of free radical on bonding strength are measured and analyzed in order to find out how to make sanded wood pieces having the strongest bonding strength. It concludes that surface roughness of sanded wood pieces, contact angle, the number of free radical as well as bonding strength don't show a linear change with the increase of granularity of abrasive belt. Therefore, it is necessary to choose proper granularity of abrasive belt in order to achieve better surface quality of wood pieces and optimum bonding strength in sanding process. The main concludes as follows:(1) Among the three sanding parameters-the granularity of abrasive belt, the sanding thickness, the feed rate, the granularity of abrasive belt is proved to be the major factor affecting surface roughness of sanded wood pieces by orthogonal test. And they have no obvious influence on the bonding strength.(2)With the increasing of the granularity of abrasive belt, the surface roughness, the contact angle, the number of free radical are not linearly decreasing.(3) When take the granularity of abrasive belt as the only changing factor, and the sanding thickness is 0.2mm, the feed rate is 4.12m/min, in this test, the best bonding strength of Larix deciduas can be get with P80, the best bonding strength of Pinus koraiensis can be get with P120, the best bonding strength of Elm can be get with P100, the best bonding strength of Fraxinus mandshurica Rupr. Can be get with P180.(4) The relationship between the bonding strength and the granularity of abrasive belt is not linear. Choose the proper granularity and make the the working together of mechanic and chemical bonding force produce the greatest effect, then better bonding strength can be obtained.
