Preliminary Study On The Northern Furniture Of The Yuan Dynasty

The Yuan Dynasty (1271-1368) was the first feudal dynasty that was set up by the northern steppe peoples and unified between the South and the North in Chinese history. Before the Yuan dynasty was established, Mongols had come out top on the northern Grassland of Gobi Desert, Temujin became leader on this Grassland in 1206 ,who was called Genghis Khan .Mongols had conquered Central Asia, west Asian, and most of European Region since 1218.The Chinese and western cultures were able to infiltrate and permeated unprecedentedly and widely. Mongols had wiped out Western Xia State in 1227 and Jin State in1234.From the beginning of destroying Jin State, Mongols gradually shifted the political center to the Center Plains. Chinese cultural influence expanded with it. It can be said that Mongols had a profound impact on social life, historical development in China, Asian and Europe as well as East-west exchange. The furniture mentioned in the north during Yuan Dynasty in this article wasn't limited to that after the establishment of the Yuan Dynasty. But that began with the event that Mongolian government conquered Western Region .The main purpose is to reflect the style of furniture during the period when Mongols ruled the Yuan Dynasty.The Yuan Dynasty furniture in the article was researched from different aspects: First, Selecting information about the Yuan Dynasty furniture after sorting out existing archaeological data, the wall paintings of the temple, ancient paintings, and historical data and so on. Second, researching the kinds of the Yuan Dynasty furniture, expounding the modeling feature and decorative style of the northern furniture in the Yuan Dynasty. Third, going back the characteristic origin about the style of furniture in the north during Yuan Dynasty. Fourth, researching the Yuan Dynasty furniture in the north by stages. Final conclusion, furniture in the north during Yuan Dynasty is based on that during Song and Jin states. Later it was mixed in different factors from Mongolian culture and Islamic culture, and formed the style of furniture with multilateral existing .It has the important place in Chinese history about furniture. And laid the foundation for the glory of the future during Ming and Qing dynasty.
