Mercury is a worldwide pollutant. Even though its existence is poor mercury has strong toxicity to human and wild organisms. Mercury in atmosphere mainly presents with many kinds of gaseous compounds. Little of them are particular mercury which has an important significance on its circle evolvement. So the study of particular mercury plays an important role in the evolvement of mercury.Our previous studies focus on bigger cities of our country. It is poor that the study about particular mercury of mining cities. Some research work demonstrates that exhausting by coal burning is a main factor of atmosphere mercury pollutant. Huainan is a represent city which coal burning provides most industry powder. Therefore Huainan city's air quality focuses many attentions. This paper analyzes the mercury of PM10 and PM2.5 which sampled from 7 monitoring points in 6 function areas of Huainan for one year. So that we can understand the concentration change of mercury in airborne particulates and the distribution characteristics of particular mercury pollutant. The experiment contains three parts: The mass concentration monitoring of PM10 and PM2.5; The mercury concentration monitoring in PM10 and PM2.5; Monitoring mercury content of falling dust. The results show that:(1) The mass concentration ranges of Huainan PM10, PM2.5 respectively are 0.0547~0.6790 mg/m3 and 0.0373~0.2895 mg/m3. The proportion of fine particulate of PM10 is higher than coarse particulate. The change tendency of PM2.5 is similar with PM10. Meteorological conditions restrict the mass concentration of particulate. Conclusively, pollutant of inhaled particulate of Huainan is serious.(2) The average volume concentrations of mercury in PM10, PM2.5 of Huainan respectively are 1.1269 ng/m3 and 0.7354 ng/m3. Mercury concentration of PM10 has reached magnitude level of gaseous mercury in atmosphere. Mercury concentration form high to low is Winter, Spring, Fall and Summer with the change of season. The highest volume concentrations of mercury in PM10, PM2.5 are all presenting in Chemical area. The lowest PM10 mercury is in Resident area and the lowest PM2.5 mercury is in Education area. Results show that there are great differences between different function areas. In addition, chemical coal burning and waste gas emission have big contributions to particular mercury. Surface dust is a main source of particular mercury. And coal has a significantly bigger contribution to mercury than surface dust.(3) Analyst results of particular mercury mass concentration certificate that the mercury content of PM2.5 is higher than PM10 because PM2.5 has bigger surface area. And particular mercury concentration is associated with particulate mass concentration. Moreover particular mercury has close relationships with humidity, temperature, wind speed.(4) Results of monitoring of Education area, Chemical area and Traffic area showed that granularity of falling dust of Traffic area is bigger than Education area and Chemical area. Mercury content of falling dust is far lower than mercury content of particulate.
