Geologic section is an important diagram of reflecting the structure and the lithology of stratum. It is the most intuitionistic and effective expression of stratum on the vertical. It is the basic production of geological work. It is mainly used for understanding geologic panorama in mining area cooperating with relief map. It can offer gists on systematically analyzing the area of geological condition and rightly coaching the exploiture of underground resource and carrying out projects.With the rapid development of modern computer technology, more and more industries depend on computer technology to deal with related business, and apply the computer to geology. IT can assist workers to study data collection, storage, analysis, calculation, decision-making, two dimensional and three dimensional visualization, geological simulation. At present, the geologic section is mainly drew by the CAD and other tools with programming languages. Although CAD technology increased degree of automation, it is only digital copy of paper map. Point, line and surface of CAD graphics is only graphical element. It cann't truly represent the specific geological elements, because it do not have the characteristic description of geological features. Geographic Information System has brought new opportunity for geological workers. Not only can GIS integrating with geologic section plotting achieve spatial analysis and properties inquiring of spatial objects, but also can enhance the degree of automation and can reduce human intervention.This paper analyzes the data model of geologic profile and designes geology database to manage geology data. The database is convenient for inputting, adding, deleting, modifying and querying data. Based on analyzing spatial distribution orderliness of geologic stratum, the rule of structure of stratum is set down, and polygons of stratum are generated by turn left algorithm. With Visual C++, This paper uses MapGIS as GIS platform to reduce difficult of programming development and cut down the workload. Being validated by practical engineering geology data of a silver mine of Shanxi province, the software system runs steadily, generates map rapidly and exactly and meets the needs of geological work.
