Wetland, forests and sea are known as the three major ecosystems of the earth. The main role of wetland is to maintain the ecological security and protect the biodiversity. People call wetland as 'The Kidney of The Earth', Natural Reservoir and Natural Species Bank. But in recent years, due to various reasons, wetland is under threats of functional degradation, dimensions shrinking, water pollution, ecological damages and so on. As a result, people are more and more concern about development and proper protection of wetland.Dongpig Lake Wetland is located at Dongping County, Shandong Province. It is consist of Dawenhe Wetland, Jiuxianxiang Wetland and Daowatun Wetland. The area of water storage is about 20000 hectare. Dongping Lake Wetland plays a very important role in keeping the lake water clean, maintaining ecological balance, regulating water supply, protecting biological species and promoting sustainable economic and social development in the region. However, due to poor management and unreasonable development, the present situation of ecological resources allows for no optimism. The wetland is under threats of functional degradation, dimensions shrinking, water pollution and ecological damages. It's urgent to implement wetland protect and restore project, rescue the ecological resources, promote its ecology recover progress.Via reading domestic and foreign literatures, based on systematical research of theories and advanced experiences of wetland protection, this essay researches the protection and development of Dongping Lake Wetland. As a result of the research, it makes some suggestions, which are in principle of protection first and rational planning, we should first implement rescue and protect project and we must develop the wetland rationally.
