Tinting pigment is one of the most important dyeing agents. And they are it is widely used in many fields such as painting,printing ink,dyeing,paper making and so on. This article mainly summarized the current application of pigment at home and abroad. And also have done the research of the characteristic and application of the pigment. And on the base of the above research, the retaining mechanism was also investigated.In the first part of this paper, some main characteristics of pigment were researched, including coloring strength,covering ability, acid and alkali resistant, light endurance, electrification and grain diameter dimension. And the following results were obtained:(1)The coloring strength of the pigments were used in this research were above 100, so the coloring strength were high.(2)Through the treatment of parchmentize indicate that the pigment have resistance to acids and bases.(3)Through treatment of the xenon arc indicate that the pigment have better light fastness than dye.(4)Through the analysis of electrical nature, the followings were known: PP0357 Blue and PP0358Violet are non-ion; PP0360Red and PP0362 Red are cationic. PP0359 Orange and PP0361 Yellow are anionic.(5)The distribution of grain diameter dimension of pigments which used in paper coating to whiten paper were 60nm750nm,65nm750nm。In the second part of this paper, the influencing factors of dyeing of case board were researched and the influencing discipline of the effect of these influencing factors on dyeing depth were investigated.First, the effect of beating degree, retaining agents, contact time, pH and filling on dyeing of board paper were researched. And we found that the best beating degree was 44°SR. As to red pigment, the effect of adding Al2(SO4)3 first was better than adding pigment first. But it was just the opposite as to yellow and orange pigment. The best dosage of Al2(SO4)3 of the pigments(red, yellow, orange) were 3%. Anionic rosin size and AKD were good for retaining of pigment but the cationic rosin size is not. The best contacting time of the pigments were 6min, 6min and 4min. And the best pH were 5.5,5.5 and 6. Talcum powder reduced the dyeing effect.Second, the influencing discipline of the effects of beating degree, adding agents(chitosan, starch) and filling on dyeing depth were researched. And the curve fitting equation were obtained. And the relationship between the factors and the dyeing depth were quantified.The third part of this paper mainly have done the research on the application of pigment used in white paper and coating. And got that scope of pigment was very wide, through changing the dosage and the proportion of different pigment it can get the requirement. When the dosage of pigment was 0.003-0.1%,with the increasing of the dosage of pigment, Hunter whiteness decreased. Through comparing the effect of pigment and FWA on paper shade, we can got pigment can replace FEA when the requirement of paper whiteness is not very high. And also we got the best dosage of pigment added in pulp was and in coating was 60ppm.The last part of this article adsorption mechanism was researched. First the regularity of pigment adsorption was got. And the pigment adsorption was divided into rapid stage,slow stage and concluding stage and also the direct adsorption dosage was about 30%.
