Al-Cu alloy, which is the first used Aluminium casting alloy in the industrial field, is the most important one except Al-Si alloy. Its main characteristics, such as high mechanical properties both at the room and high temperature, good cutting performance and excellent heat-resistance are the basis of developing super high strength Aluminium alloy contained Cu and kinds of heat-resistant Aluminium alloys. Unfortunately, because of the poor casting properties, Al-Cu alloy can not be suggested using die casting. In this article, based on the material of ZL201 alloy, a research on processing feasibility of fix crosspiece by tilt pouring is operated through designing a die and doing pouring experiments.First of all, with the way of die casting decided, the structure designed of the fix crosspiece is analyzed. The pouring position, the dimension of pouring cups and risers and the arrangement of air-discharge system and other things necessary are determined preliminarily, according to the design method and principle of integral structure of the die. Then, three ways of casting was assumed.Simulation result obtained after applying the design of experiment on pre-designed parameters such as pouring temperature, filling time, the pouring position and the temperature of the die is that the key factor is the pouring position. And then, three different ways of pouring trials are performed preliminarily. After improving the constructional details of the machine for tilt pouring and adjusting the pouring parameters by five groups of trails, a relatively stable method is achieved in the end. The experiment of mechanical property including strength and deformation is done on castings in the state of casting, T4 and T5, of which is satisfactory in the condition of T5 heat treating with enough strength in the pressure of 27t and the deformation less than 0.02mm.The micrographic metallic phase is observed then the result of the experiment is confirmed by the change of T-phase.The cause of the generation on shrinkage cavity and crack in pouring process are analyzed, which is thought to be the combined effect among the character of Al-Cu alloy, the structure of the part, pouring ways and the other parameters, meanwhile, many measures for prevention are advised for example improving the quality of the alloy, modifying the thickness of walls and adjusting the pouring parameters.The casting parameters confirmed conclude pouring temperature 660℃, tilting angle 30°, basins in center, risers in both sides and filling time 12″. At the same time, rapidly die sinking, zone-cooling on the dies, and smelting without returns or with few of returns.
