Six new compounds mainly with Triphenyl amino (TPA) and pyrenyl units capable for gas sensing are designed and prepared, abbreviated as S1,S2,S3,S4,S5 and S6. The chemical structures were fully characterized by NMR and MS in this paper.(1) Two compounds were prepared using Triphenyl amino (TPA) pyrenyl pinacol boronic ester by Suzuki coupling reaction. They are named as S1 and S2.(2) Compounds of S3 and S4 were prepared from pyrenyl pinacol boronic ester by Suzuki coupling reaction.(3) Two other compounds were prepared from S1 undergoing further reaction. They are named as S5 and S6 respectively.By dip-coating method, the thin solid films here used were fabricated. By studying the fluorescence and absorbance spectra of the six compounds, and their sensory response to HCl and halogenated hydrocarbons, we found that:(1) Those four compounds with pyridyl units at the molecular end showed well sensing property to HCl and NH3. They could be switched by HCl and NH3 quickly with nice reversibility. Moreover, they demonstrateed varied sensing phenomena to HCl. The fluorescence of compounds S1 and S3 were quenched while the emission maximum of compounds S1 and S3 were red shifted.(2) Compounds of S5 and S6 showed an effective detecting and selectivity property to halogenated hydrocarbons, the best detecting property appears when it exposed to steam of chloroform and CHCl2CHCl2.(3) All these data suggest these six materials could find use in detecting HCl, NH3 and halogenated hydrocarbons. They would find applications in environmental monitoring as people draws more and more attention on environmental protection.
