Gynostemma pentaphyllum is a wild perennial plant with the medicinal and edible functions.It is also an oriental medicinal herb with numerous pharmacological activities. The meshed dry plants have been used as the tea bag,while the fresh materials have been manufactured to drinks.Moreover,its functional components as Ginsenosides have been applied to the production of medicines and chemicals.Those utilization ways are traditional and the resources are absent of comprehensive utilization.The potential values of the plant still need further exploration.In order to develop the novel products of Gynostemma pentaphyllum as instant blending tea and chewing tablets,the paper focused on the researches as followings:1) Optimization of the extraction conditions on the recovery of the main components. The orthogonal method was applied to opitimize the extraction condition on the recovery of main components.The results showed that the optimum exraction condition was that the material was extracted twice at 90℃for 30 mins in 50-folds volumes of waters.2) Optimization of the microfilteration conditions on the quality of instant powders. To investigate the effect of different membrane aperture and times of dialysis on the quality of instant,the experiments adopted 0.1μm,0.2μm,0.5μm,0.8μm ceramics membrane with membrane area of 0.244m~2,length of 42cm to filtrate the infusion of Gynostemma pentaphyllam respectively.The instant powders made from the clarifed infusion with 0.1μm ceramic membrane and once dialysis had the highest content of main components as well as higher sweet aroma,while its brews gave bright yellowish-green liquor with a mellow taste.3) Optimization of the blending ratio of instant Gynostemma pentaphyllam to instant black tea.In order to develop a novel product with the blends of instant Gynostemma pentaphyllam and instant black tea,the instant Gynostemma pentaphyllam was prepared with the above optimum extraction and filtration methods.Thereof,the instant black tea was produced with the extraction at 90℃for 30 mins in 12-folds volumes of waters and the subsequent filtration with 0.2μm ceramic membrane.After blending,the mixtures gave the best compatibility with the ratio of 1:2~4.This product had a fresh strong taste,a sweetish aroma as well as a clear orangish-red liquor.4) Effects of the particles of the Gynostemma pentaphyllam ultrafine powders on the product of chewing tablets.The different meshes of the powder were prepared with the ultrafine pulverizer and processed to the chewing tablets.The results showed that the 800 mesh of the powder gave the best quality of the chewing tablets.This tablests had a double flange,a integral and lubricant surface,light green color.Its flavor was characteristic with a slight sweet and exquisite taste.
