Now the synthesizing technics of mesitylene have already achieved some development, but considering the conditions of technic, cost, quality and so on, there is not a route that has ever showed superiority in market competition evidently. The paper summarizes the different production methods in industry, and further studies the technology of isomerization synthesis of mesitylene without hydrogen.The pseudocumene as the material was reacted over the regenerative catalyst of M-2 composited mordenite in the tube reactor of continuous fixed bed. By means of the Uniformity Experiments, the correlation equation about factors and molar yield was established. According to the equation,the reaction conditions of this technics was optimized. The optimum conditions are shown as follows: the reaction temperature is 353℃, the pressure is 3.2MPa and the volume space velocity is 0.9 h-1.In order to research the effect of each factor on the reaction and also prove the optimum conditions mentioned above, the single element experiments were done and the similar results to the Uniformity Experiments were also obtained. Under the optimum condition, the percent conversion of pseudocumene is 45.97%, the yield of mesitylene is 20.69% and the selectivity of mesitylene is 47.05%. The experimental results show that the regenerative M-2 catalyst approaches to the fresh catalyst in both the activity and selectivity.The effect of o-methylethylbenzene on the reaction was researched too. The preferred reactive mechanisms of o-methylethylbenzene in the isomerization of pseudocumene were discussed from the structure of C9 aromatic hydrocarbon; The impact of the different reaction conditions on the o-methylethylbenzene conversion was researched too; At last the influence of the content of o-methylethylbenzene in raw material on the quality of the product was researched.The results show that the regenerative M-2 catalyst has a high catalytic activity and selectivity, which can make the o-methylethylbenzene conversed mostly, the conversion rate can be more than 90%. And there is not an accumulation of o-methylethylbenzene in the product with its increasing in raw material, the standard mesitylene can be obtained simultaneously.
