The discovery of fullerene offers opportunities to explore the beautiful chemistry on the fullerenes' curved surfaces and design novel fullence-based materials for numerous applications. This dissertation focus on the researches on metallofullerene derivatives, the electronical properties of fullerene dimers, and C6o-carboxylic acid ester derivatives.1.Three metallofullerene derivatives have been firstly synthesized. MALDI-TOF-MS, UV- Vis-NIR and FT-IR analysis indicated that they were La@C82-C4N2H8, La@C82-C4N2H8-H8, and La@C82-(C4N2H8)2-H6, respectively. Comparing the react activity and the products among hollow fullerene and two metallofullerenes, we found that the encapsulated metal had much influence on the properties of fullerenes, which gave some insight on the applications of their derivatives.2. Fullerene dimers C131 and C141 were synthesized by neutron irradiation of the mixture of C60 and C70. We separated them by HPLC and investigated them by MALDI- TOF-MS, UV-Vis and electrochemical methods such as cyclic voltammogram, differential pulse voltammogram analysis. It was found that they were good electron acceptors but may dissociate if they accepted more electrons.3.The C60-carboxylic acid ester derivatives could be synthesized by C60 and diethyl bromomalonate in the presence of l,8-diazabicyclo[5,4,0] undec-7-ene (DBU) in dry toluene over 5 h under Ar atmosphere, which are the raw material of water-soluble derivatives of C60-carboxylic acid.
