The formate complexes are broadly researched and applied, its magnetism, spectrum, biological active and structure all have important research meanings. It is not only applied in the organic chemistry, biology chemistry, physical chemistry, analysis chemistry, but also the material science. Studies on the complexes containing formate as ligand have never been stopped for half a century. In this study, two new formate complexes are synthesized, [Cu(phen)2HCOO]BF4(1) and [Cu2(phen)2(HCOO)2(OH)2][Cu2(phen)2(H2O)2 (OH)2](HCOO)2·10H2O(2), and also characterized by IR spectrum, ultraviolet analysis and single-crystal X-ray diffraction. They are all five-coordination copper(II) ion complexes. The compound (1) is single-nuclear complex, The compound (2) is binuclear complex, In the compound (1) copper(II) coordinated by four N atoms from two molecules of phenanthrolines and one O atom from formate. The Cu II ion is in a distorted square-pyramidal geometry. The dihedral angle between the planes of the two phenanthroline ligands is 59.4(4) degree. The compound (2) is hydroxyl birdging dinuclear copper(II) complex, they all coordinated by two O atoms from the birdging hydroxyl ligands, two N atoms from phenanthroline ligands and one O atom from axes ligands. The four copper(II) ions are all in a square-pyramidal geometry. The Cu II ion coordination environment can be divided into two parts, one is that the two formate ions are coordinatited to Cu(II) in axis position, another is that the two water molecules are coordinatited to Cu(II) in axis position,. there are also two formate ions existing dissociatively. The planes of the phenanthroline ligands is to be parallel to each other. In addition, four 1iquid crystalline spiroxazine derivatives are characterized by photoxchromism, and compaired their decolouration rate constant by different compounds in the same solvent and the same compound in different solvents. They provide new experiment base for the further study in this field.
