In this thesis, we report synthesis, characterization and catalytic properties of rare earth complexes incorporating hydroxyl Schiff base ligands and a Mannich reaction catalyzed by TiCl4. They are expressed in details as follows. In the first part, we reported the synthesis of four complexes of [Y(SAP)(HMDS)(THF)]2 (1)[Sm(SAP)(HMDS)(THF)]2 (2),[Yb(SAP)(HMDS)(THF)]2(3)and [NaSm3(PMAP)5(THF)6](4). Complexes 1, 2 and 3 were obtained by using Ln[(N(SiMe3)2]3 and H2sap (sap = salicylidene-2-aminophenol) as the starting materials. Complex 4 was synthesized from the reaction between Sm[(N(SiMe3)2]3 and H2PMAP (PMAP = 2-pyrrol-2-ylmethyleneamino-phenol). The structures of four complexes were characterized by X-ray crystal diffraction. In the second part, the hydroamination reaction of alkene catalyzed by 1, 2 and 3 were investigated and the mechanism of the reaction was explored. In the third part, TiCl4-catalyzed one-pot Mannich reaction of benzaldehyde, acetophenone and aromatic amines was reported.
