CeO2 is one of the most important rare earth materials for a wide range of application in catalysts, fuel cells, UV absorbent, and ceramic materials. CeO2@Au core-shell nanoparticles are important catalyst and can be widely used in water-gas shift reaction and direct methanol fuel cells. Therefore, studies on the preparation and properties of CeO2@Au core-shell nanoparticles are of importance.CeO2 with special morphologies was synthesized by hydrothermal method. The effects of PVP content, different reaction times and calcination temperature on morphologies were studied, and the possible mechanism had also been proposed. The products were characterized by DTA-TG, SEM and XRD. The results showed that CeO2 was cubic system and space group was O5H-FM3M. Special morphologies such as spindle-like shape, rod-like form, bowtie pattern, and bone-like shape had been observed.CeO2@Au nanoparticles with special morphologies was synthesized by different methods. CeO2@Au nanoparticles such as square, rod-like shape and sphere, which was characterized by TEM, SEM, XRD and UV-vis analysis. CeO2@Au nanoparticles by chemical deposit method have also been prepared and the size of nanoparticles was about 20nm~30nm. Some new meaningful results were obtained, and lay a foundation for the further research of its catalytic performance.
