Heat insulating ability is an important function for apparel, so heat insulate materials are of various kinds, natural fibers have their own deficiencies in spite of their excellent heat insulating ability.Thus, hollow PET fibers, which have both the heat insulating ability of natural fibers and the good rinsibility,wearing value ,low price as well as durability, were impolderd.A series of hollow PET fibers are introduced one after another in America, Japan, Korea,etc.Prolivon fiber is a type of trigonal hollow PET fiber impolderd independently by Shanghai Lianji Synthetic fiber Co.Ltd. which has a fineness close to that of cotton and a stucture close to that of hairs of polar bears.It is light, flexible, and also has excellent heat insulating ability and spinnability, so it's widely used in the fields of textile fabrics, apparels and home textiles to upgrade the final products.This article is mainly focused on the heat insulating ability and comfort of the fabrics made of the trigonal hollow PET fibers produced by Shanghai Lianji Synthetic fiber Co.Ltd. The differences on the heat insulating ability and comfort between the fabrics made of the former fibers and the roundish hollow PET fibers are discussed, and a stuctural mechanical model is founded to help further study on this new fiber.First, the basic properties of Prolivon, roundish hollow PET fibers and general PET fibers is tested and analysed. Second, according to the basic properties of hollow PET fibers,the properties of yarns and final products including woven ,knitted and nonwoven fabrics are tested.The length, linear density, strength and hollowness of fibers, the tensile strength, linear density and twist of yarns, the density, heat insulating ability, Air permeability, water impermeability, water absorbability and compressed elastic resilience of fabrics are tested. A ANSYS microsoft is used to found the mechanical model of the trigonal, roundish and square hollow PET fibers.The conclusions according to the analysis of the test result and the mechanical model are as follows: The stucture and properties of Prolivon is preponderant compared to other Modified cross-sectional hollow fibers; It is not just heat insulate,comfortable,light, it is also stable in stucture, compression resistant which has a bright future.It is applied in Sanqiang underwears, Hailuo shirts and Minguang quilts. The heat insulating ability of final products made of trigonal hollow PET fibers is better than roundish ones. Hollow fibers is preponderant in heat insulating ability, however, it's air permeability is not so ideal, so there is potential in developing its air permeability.
