The effect,effect factor and mechanism of the treatment of high concentration phenol by microwave irradiation/activated carbon process and the regeneration of activated carbon by direct microwave irradiation process have been studied in this paper.Without adding oxidant,the removal effects of phenol in the treatment of high concentration phenol by microwave irradiation/activated carbon process at different microwave power,irradiation time,amount of activated carbon,phenol concentration and pH of raw wastewater have been researched in this paper.The results show that the microwave power,irradiation time and the amount of activated carbon are positive to the treatment of phenol wastewater,but phenol concentration and pH of raw wastewater are negative.Microwave irradiation/activated carbon process has distinct enhanced phenol removal efficiency than the adsorption process by activated carbon only.The mechanism research of decontamination of phenol by microwave irradiation/activated carbon process indicates that the enhanced removal efficiency of phenol is not because of the microwave-induced oxidation mechanism.The major reason is that Microwave irradiation leads to the temperature of the system rise up and then accelerate the adsorption of phenol to activated carbon.In addition to this, the improvement of adsorption capability of activated carbon by microwave does it a favor.Using activated carbon adsorbing phenol saturated as research object,the condition and method of activated carbon regeneration by direct microwave irradiation process have been investigated.The effect to activated carbon regeneration by microwave power, irradiation time, energy density, amount of activated carbon and the diameter of regeneration reactor and the regeneration effect of activated carbon by more times have been studied.The results show that activated carbon regeneration by microwave irradiation directly process is very feasible.In this process,activated carbon needs no pretreatment and no carrier gas for protection in the course.The microwave power,irradiation time and energy density are positive to the regeneration of activated carbon,but the amount of activated carbon and the diameter of regeneration reactor are negative.Activated carbon can be regenerated times without number by microwave irradiation directly process and the regeneration rate can be up to 100%,even more better.The mechanism research of activated carbon regeneration by direct microwave irradiation process indicates that some part of phenol adsorbed on activated carbon will be distilled out with water,but most part of it will be destructed in the process.Furthermore, in the course of this process, a little change will be take place on activated carbon.The amount of alkaline groups will be increased,but the acidic groups will be decreased,which is beneficial to adsorption of phenol for it.After this research,a simple but effective method to treat wastewater with high concentration phenol has been gained and an effective activated carbon regeneration method using microwave has been proposed,which has been simplified by further study.they are very important to wastewater with high concentration phenol treatment and activated carbon regeneration in situ.
