In this letter, high density, smooth,straightβ-SiC nanowires are synthesized by the DC Arc-Discharge method using a solid mixture of graphite, silicon, and silicon dioxide(C–Si–SiO2).The diameter of the nanowire is about 200 nm, and the length is about 20μm. the axis of the nanowire is preferentially along the <111>direction. The morphology and structure of the nannowire was characterized by X-ray diffraction(XRD), scanning electron micrograph(SEM), Energy Dispersive X-Ray Fluoresence Spectrometer (EDX) transmission electron microscope(TEM).
