The interface was considered an important subject in material sciencebecause of the special structure. Diffusion couples of Co-Al and Co-Znsystems were made by riveting method and diffusion treatment, and thendiffusion zones between interfaces formed from the compact contact of thebulks. The microstructure characteristics of the diffusion zone were studiedby means of optical metallography, backscattering technique andmicrohardness tester. The experiments results showed, the diffusion zone hasapparent interface with Cobalt matrix and has vague one withAluminum (orZinc) matrix. The diffusion zone is thick when the temperature is high, whichallows Arrhenius relationship. The thickness of the diffusion zone is largerunder the condition of the longer time and keeps agreement with parabolicrelationship versus time. Moreover, the component of the diffusion zone hasbeen investigated. Three factors including the flux of atoms betweeninterfaces, the heat of formation by Miedema Model and the stability ofintermetallic compound were considered. The phase CoAl is predicted toform first in Co-Al system while the phaseβ1 in Co-Zn system. The trend oftransformation of the framework is shown by the results of microhardnessconcerningaboutthediffusionzone.
