Using Al-Cu-Mg alloy as interlayer material, a stainless steel clad carbon steel plate isprepared by hot-rolling. The amount of cladding experiments is based on orthogonal design ofL16(45) to reduce the parameters variations of rolling temperature and speed, interlayerthickness, deformation and the second rolling speed. Accordingly, the rolling parameters arestudied by single argument experiments. Microstructures of the clad plate are observed andanalyzed, the thickness of diffusion layer and cross section microhardness are measured, andmechanical properties of the clad plate are tested.Experiment results show that both the rise of rolling temperature and the decrease inrolling speed, increase deformation of the interlayer material and reduce the thickness of theinterlayer are all conduced toward the plate. With the following preparation parameters: thefirst rolling temperature and speed are 635℃and 24 mm/min, interlayer thickness and itsdeformation are 0.6 mm and 21% and the second rolling temperature and speed are 670~680℃and 20 mm/min, deformation of the interlayer is 28%, a 60μm and a 45μm thickness ofdiffusion layers are obtained on carbon steel and stainless steel sides respectively. Thediffusion layers of the carbon steel side are consisted primarily of Fe2Al5 and FeAl3 phases, and the stainless steel side are Fe2Al5 and Al13Cr2 intermetallics, and their microhardness areover HV0.0251000. The tensile strength and top yield strength of the clad plate reach 526 MPaand 410 MPa respectively with the shear strength of 85 MPa and without the occurrence ofcracking after 180°bending test.
