The underground working conditions is so poor that the probability of failure on Oil pump with sucker-rod is higher, which seriously affect the pump operating conditions and production. Once the failure of pumping units happened ,no timely diagnosis, which will result in the waste of energy (mainly electricity)as well as the negative impact on production ,even caused losses to the enterprise. The development of the petroleum industry make a strong demand on research about the technology of fault diagnosis for Pumping Well. For decades, the monitoring technique of the running state of pumping wells has been an important research topic for domestic and international oil engineers and technicians.When the correct indicator diagram obtained , we can judge the leveraged Pumping working conditions through it .This paper mainly describes the characteristics of several pumping unit'typical faults and indicator diagram. Based on intelligent pumping equipment for the pumping unit , the specific fault diagnosis algorithm was achieved by using of simple four-point method. Moreover, the recognition method was provided based on a sample database. The paper highlight the theory and algorithms of the realization of fault diagnosis on intelligent pumping equipment for the pumping unit.Some specific solutions to possible anomalies of the equipment are raised, when these abnormal situations arise,the equipment can make a timely response and enable the pumping unit to be able to work under the maximum efficiency.The fault diagnosis on intelligent pumping equipment for pumping unit may carry out real-time fault monitoring on pumping unit. After the pumping unit broke down , the corresponding tips or parking operation will be given, which is advantageous for the staffs on-the-spot to carry on maintenance and repairing promptly. Thus this might enhance the working efficiency to a great extent and save some unnecessary economic loss.
