Poly vinyl chloride (PVC) is the most largest dosage of synthetic resin currently in China. PVC is mainly used in the fields of architecture material, film and imitation leather etc. Its yearly average demand increases terribly quickly. The production technics from vinyl chloride monomer(VCM) to PVC has basically ways of ethylene and acetylene. The development of polyvinyl chloride industry takes on considerable perspective.The processes of vinyl chloride synthesis have been introduced briefly, and the production process of acetylene is emphasized especially in this paper. The two different technics of ethylene and acetylene have been compared. It is pointed out that the development emphasis of VCM is the way from acetylene process for the future in China.The dynamic simulation technology of plants for vinyl chloride synthesis from acetylene process has been studied in this paper. According the equilibrium of mass, energy and reaction mechanism and production data, the mechanism models of basic unit plants in VCM system have been founded. By analyzing the structure of the reactor, a dynamic mechanism model of vinyl chloride synthesis converter was founded. The model may describe the characteristics of vinyl chloride converter. According to the form and characteristics of the model, a proper arithmetic is chosen. On the basis of simulation, the operation status has been analyzed and optimum operation conditions have been found. For the whole process system, the dynamic sequential modular approach is adopted. The simulation results show that the simulation data is consistent with production data while reaching the steady state and the dynamic process accord with the actual changing trend.The dynamic simulation system software of vinyl chloride synthesis process was developed, which has theoretical significance and applied value. The software is not only the platform for training operation workers, but also the effective tool in carrying through the research, design, operation management, control optimization and technology improvement of vinyl chloride synthesis process. Many optimization works were also done for both the process and the control system by using the system software. This has extraordinary significance for promoting vinyl chloride industry production.
