Study Of Korean Environmental Diplomacy

With the global environment worsening, the environmental problems begin to be put into the international political agenda. As a new area, Environmental Diplomacy gradually becomes the highlight of the international diplomacy.Since the first United Nations conference on environment and development was hold in 1992, environmental issues have started to connect closely with the national economy, security in Korea. Since then, Korean Environmental Diplomacy has begun in its substantial stage and makes significant achievement in international environment-governance, especially in Northeastern environmental cooperation. This paper discussed the global and regional environmental diplomacy measures of Korea in international environmental cooperation based on the international environmental diplomacy background. The outstanding specialties and significant characteristics of Korea Environmental Diplomacy in 1990's are properly introduced. Also it analyzes the opportunity and challenge Korean Environmental Diplomacy is confronted with in 21st century and the consensus China and Korea achieved in Northeastern environmental cooperation. At last, this paper presents the foreground of the Sino-Korean environmental cooperation.As a neighbor of China and one of the core nations in Northeastern cooperation, Korean environmental diplomacy has a great impact on Sino-Korean and Northeastern environmental cooperation. The study of Korean Environmental Diplomacy and the analysis of the position and trend of Korea in terms of international Northeastern environmental issues and the environmental problems China and Korea are confronted with together makes great significance.
