Based on the analyzing the development of microwave assistance extraction (MAE) and its applications in agriculture, pharmaceutical industry, food processing industry and so on, using orange peel as material, mono-factor and orthogonal experiments were conducted to establish the optimal MAE technology of orange pigment. The results indicate orange pigments would remain stable under heat, natural light and ultraviolet radiation challenges. The research takesβ-carotene as a standard sample and adopts HPLC and analyzes the ingredients of orange pigment. Finally, the research compares MAE with the ultrasonic wave extraction and soaking extraction. The main findings include:1) Among the four extraction solutions, the extraction rate goes like this: the acetone >acetic ester >hexathydrohenzene>ethanol. The effect of mixed extraction is better than single extraction. The effect of extraction solution mixed with ethanol is different from other mixtures and the difference is more obvious than mixtures with hexathydrohenzene, acetone and acetic ester2) Under different solution ratios at 1∶20, 1∶30, 1∶40, 1∶50, the extraction efficiency increases when solution ratio decreases. When output and extraction rate are considered , the appropriate solution ratio should be at 1∶40.3) Under the same volume and solution ratio, the absorbency would decline with increase of microwave power.4) The optimal orange pigment extraction technology is like this: to extract with ethanol at 40℃for 8 minutes. The extraction rate could reach 17.386% when the diameter of materials is 0.5 mm to pass the sifter.5) Under the different temperatures and illumination, the orange pigment is stable6) Compared with ultrasonic wave extraction and soaking extraction, the change of absorbency curves is consistent. By HPLC tested, the pigment components of different extractions are almost the same. The extraction rate is : ultrasonic wave extraction >microwave assistance extraction> soaking extraction. The process of temperature rising is slower when ultrasonic wave extraction is adopted and the experimental time is very long. The experimental time of soaking extraction is 40~60 times of microwaves assistances extraction7) The orange pigment has 24 ingredients at least. The contents of each elements are different when extracting impregnant varies. The orange pigment includesβ-carotene and the content ofβ-carotene is about 2.869% of that in orange pigment.
