Oscillating chemical reaction as a typical phenomenon of nonequilibrium and nonlinearity, has involved considerable interests and extensive attention of researchers for many years. At present, the major interest focuses on the application to analytical determination and designing new oscillator. This paper report the kinetic determination of furfural and ribavirin by Mn(Ⅱ)catalyzed B-Z oscillating chemical reaction in open and closed system, respectively;and a novel liquid membrane oscillator synchronously using cationic and anionic surfactants was also discussed.PartⅠ:IntroductionA brief introduction has been made for the development of the B-Z oscillating chemical systems and liquid membrane oscillator. Some theoretical model, thermodynamic parameters and their application are described in detail. The perspective of chemical oscillation and liquid membrane oscillator is also discussed.PartⅡ:Determination of furfural by oscillating chemical reaction using an analyte pulse perturbation technique in open systemA rapid and convenient method for the determination of furfural is presented that is based upon sequential perturbation of Mn(Ⅱ)-catalyzed B-Z oscillating system with different amounts of furfural using a continuous-flow stirred tank reactor(CSTR). When the furfural was injected into the oscillating system, the change of the amplitudes and/or period was linearly proportional to the logarithm of the concentration of furfural over the range 3×10-8~1×10-5mol·L-1,with a detecting limit of 3×10-9mol·L-1under the optimum conditions. Finally, the possible mechanism of the perturbation of furfural on the oscillating reaction is discussed.PartⅢ:Kinetic determination of ribavirin by using the B-Z oscillating chemical reaction in close systemBoth the perturbation of ribavirin and the effect of variables on the proposed chemical oscillating system were studies in detail. When the sample was injected, the change of amplitude was linearly proportional to the concentration of ribavirin in the range of 1.5×10-7~6.3×10-5mol·L-1,with a detection limit of 3.20×10-8mol·L-1(r = 0.9964,N=10).In addition,a possible mechanism of the perturbation of ribavirin on the oscillating system was also discussed.PartⅣ:A Novel Oscillating Phenomena of Electrical Potential across a Liquid MembraneStudies have been made on electrical oscillations across a liquid membrane in water/oil/water system with n-octanol as oil phase by introducing two opposite charged surfactants in oil and aqueous phase respectively. Two different oscillating patterns were observed by exchanging the two opposite charged surfactants in oil and aqueous phase. To a certain extent, the features of the oscillation(e.g.induction time, frequency, life time and orientation of the pulse pikes)strongly lie on the kind of surfactant dissolved in n-octanol.The effect of variables on the self-oscillation had been amply investigated in order to obtain further insight into the mechanism of the proposed oscillatory systems.
