Die casting is one of the important foundry methods in materials process engineering. It is efficient. Technological design of die casting determines directly the quality of products and the productivity. In this paper, the drying apparatus shell is regarded as the research object, which is a thin, dissymmetrical structure and different height and thickness die casting. The study is distributed into its extrusion process and numerical simulation. From this study, designing level of its process and forming quality are developed, and designing cost is reduced. Study can guide actual production.In this paper, gating system and overflow well are firstly designed, and they are optimized by PQ~2 map. This optimization can improve the system match of whole die casting. The finite element simulation software Procast is used to simulate the die casting process of drying apparatus shell. Based on numerical simulation, the influences of processing parameter to forming quality have been analyzed, and the reasons of forming defects such as misrunning, shrinkage and porosity are found. By use of orthogonal design, processing parameters are optimized, and the better processing programme which makes the forming quality of die casting higher is got.Finally, the new processing programme is certified by physical test. The test result is as same as the simulation result. In the new die casting process, mold filling of drying apparatus shell is better. Its configuration is clear. The area of shrinkage and porosity is obviously decreased. The whole forming quality of this die casting is satisfactory.
