In reflection to the fact that bronze powder has high wettability and poor floating property in China, it can not meet the requirements of printing. Fourteen kinds of single surfactant and mixed surfactants were coated on the surface of bronze powder in different proportions in this paper. The wettability, the floating property and the gloss of the coated bronze powder were measured, and the influencing mechanism of the surfactants on the wettability and floating property of the bronze powder was analyzed as well. Preferably coated bronze powder was used in making gold ink and the relative factors on gloss of gold ink were studied by the methods of orthogonal experiments. The results showed that:1. Coating surfactants can effectively change the wettability, the floating property and the gloss of bronze powder. In the experiment of the bronze powder coated by single surfactant the wettability of the bronze powder coated by 1% Sodium laurate has the largest decrease , the floating property of the bronze powder coated by 3% Tween-80 has the largest increase and the bronze powder coated by 2% Stearic acid has the highest gloss. The gloss of the coated bronze powder increases from 54.5 to 78.1.2. Mixed surfactants can better influence the wettability, the floating property and the gloss of bronze powder than single surfactant. The bronze powder coated by the surfactants (Sodium laurate, Oleic acid) and the organic polymers (Polychylene glycol, Tween-80) has the largest decrease in the wettability and the largest increase in the floating property. The gloss of the bronze powder coated by the mixed surfactants is 85.1, which has achieved the domestic advanced level .3. The results of orthogonal experiments in the gold ink's prescription design showed that the types of resin and solvent can also influence the gloss of gold ink expect the surfactants. The best resin is acrylic resin and the best solvent is Ethyl Acetate. The gloss ofthe gold ink is 75.5, which can meet the requirements of printing.
