For obtaining high grafting defree, solvothermal process was developed to graft maleic anhydride (MAH) onto poly(ethylene 1-octene) (POE). It was the first time studying on this reaction. Fourier transform infrared spectra (FT-IR) and 1H NMR spectra confirmed that maleic anhydride was successfully grafted onto the POE. The influences of MAH content, initiator concentration, POE concentration, reaction temperature, reaction time and solvents on the graft copolymerization were investigated through both of the grafting degree (GD) and gel content (GC). GD initially increased to maximum, and then deceased with increasing MAH concentration, DCP concentration, POE concentration and reaction temperature. And GD increased slightly after a rapid increase by further prolonging reaction time. GC initially increased by the increase of MAH concentration and reached to a maximum, and then deceased by a further increase. And GC kept increasing with the increase of DCP concentration and POE concentration. In addition, reaction time and reaction temperature have less effect on gel content in a given reaction condition. The results demonstrated that high...
