BOPP matt films is made from polypropylene and matt incompatible polyolefin blend by co-extrusion and biaxially stretching, which possess both good matte and mechanical properties, also high haze, low gloss, paper-like appearance and weak reflecting ability. It was commercialized long before, but their formation of matte surface hadn't been studied deeply up to date. This paper formulates the matt layer for BOPP matt films and studies its matt properties, matte mechanism, and surface textures, finally get the method to control. It was found that:1 For the top layer composed of lower MI HDPE and PP random copolymer with a 2-5g/10min MI. The best matt effect will be obtained at the mixing ratio approaching 1/1.2 Matt characteristics of matt film based on blends is much better than the films from the pure resins, and films from the pure resins will lose their matt appearance when film is thin enough, but the matt effect blend films is mostly independent of thickness.3 Surface scattering of matt films and the pure resin films are determined by their surface textures, the surface textures of one-component films are formed by two origins; one involving melts flow disturbances and another involving crystal aggregate close to the film surface.
