With the freshwater resource run short of day by day, it becomes an important issue that people use seawater as circulation cooling water in industry for environment protection. Scale inhibitor, one of key seawater treatment reagents, plays an important part. It not only inhibits scale, but also disperses some particles such as outcome of metal corrosion and fouling caused by microorganism's breeding. It stabilizes other effective compositions in the water, too.This paper researches synthesis conditions of acrylic acid - acrylamide (AA/AM) copolymer and evaluates their characteristics of scale inhibition through static inhibition test. The relations between structure and performance of inhibiting scale and corrosion are probed into. It also analyzes the effect of synthesis factors on the copolymer's performance. These factors include the monomer ratio, polymerizing temperature, initiator, molecular weight adjusting agent, and different functional group. Finally, one of acrylic copolymer scale inhibitor was found to fit for circulation cooling seawater system.We obtained the main results as following in the process of research:1. AA/AM copolymer seawater antiscalant is produced by these components: water, peroxide, acrylic acid, acrylamide and acrylamide with special function.2. Three appropriate outside factors are confirmed: Polymerization temperature is 75~95℃. The amount of initiator is from 5 to 10% according to the weight of the monomers. The molar ratio of molecular weight adjustment reagent and initiator is preferably from 1 : 50 to 1 : 1.3. The weight ratio of monomers and the incited functions are significantly analyzed by means of orthogonal experimental design and all kinds of evaluation results. The radio of three monomers including acrylic acid is the main factor among them. The higher content of AA and AM can improve the copolymer's ability of inhibiting CaCO3 and decrease the copper corrosion. When the amount of acrylamide...
