The reactive extrusion of polymerization is a method of making high molecular polymers from monomers in the reactive extruder. It's a revolution of condensed state polymer processing, and has attracted widespread attention both here and abroad forits particular merits, for example, few equipment expenses, no solvent or extremelyfew solvents, simple craft operations, serialization of production, diversification of polymer performance, etc.The research of the reaction extrusion process for free radical polymerization needs a comprehensive utilization of the new metal materials knowledge, new mechanical technology and experience, electronic computer, chemical engineering, macromolecular materials and so on. At present, the numerical simulation of the reaction extrusion process with the aid of the computer technology is helpful in discovering the rules of the rheological behavior and the physicochemical properties of polymer, and realizing the commercial process progress of reactive extrusion from lab study, and has the important significance to control the material structure, forecast the limit processing condition, and optimize the craft and equipment, etc. Many aspect of reactive extrusion, such as craft, equipment, classification, technical parameter and application, was introduced in this paper. Through the description of the structural parameters of the counter rotating twin screw extruder, basic theory equations about reactive extrusion, and the SIMPLE algorithm as well as the main simulation technology route in details, an equivalent three dimensional mathematical model of the reactor was built up; a semi-implicit numerical calculation method was used to deal with the complex relations between each kind of physical quantities; and a numerical simulation of free radical polymerization in a counter rotating twin screw extruder was carried on with the finite volume method.
