Being the main index of the air quality in cities, total suspended particulates are concerned and studied gradually. The data shows that contribution rate of fugitive dust already are more than 50% in total suspended particulates. It becomes the biggest obstacle of up to air quality standard in northern cities. The relative studies deem that controlling fugitive dust pollution by dust-depressor is effective and feasible. Practice also proves that using dust-depressor can obtain ideal result. Therefore, study on synthesizes of dust-depressor become a significant problem in solving fugitive dust pollution in cities.In the dissertation Xi'an city is taken as an example. The reality of fugitive dust pollution is clarified and hazard and sources are analyzed and some rational suggestions are put forward. Through mechanism of occurrence and suppression and law of fugitive dust, retaining moisture and aggregation and consolidation are primary function of suppressing fugitive dust. Many research achievements of dust-depressor in recent 20 years are list and their properties are analyzed and development direction of dust-depressor is discussed in the future. By the analysis experiments, we obtain the main chemical composition of fugitive dust in Xi'an city and get the general law of fugitive dust. The fugitive dust mainly comes from the grains of soil surface and activities of human being.According to the synthetic principle of super water-absorber, we ameliorate conventional methods and establish a new one in order to synthesize dust-depressor. By free radical graft copolymerization reaction, a dust-depressor is synthesized with natural corn starch and acrylic acid. To adjust capability of product, glycerin is used as cross-linker and a new dust-depressor is synthesized. The dust-depressor that has high moisture retaining is named NDD. Contrast experiments are conducted with moisture retaining for evaluation standard.
