At present, we design profile of shaped milling cutter with diagrammatize method. The method is low efficiency and bad precision. This paper mainly discusses how to get the profile curve of shaped milling cutter from profile of workpiece.This paper focuses on the research on methods and technology of constructing the CAD system for shaped milling cutter, including Software Engineering technology, COM technology, parameterized technology and Feature-based modeling technology, based on the principle and structural analysis of shaped milling cutter. The writer developed a interface of Pro/E and MFC with COM technology, which merged resources of Pro/E with resources MFC perfectly and resolved a technology problem of second-development on Pro/E. The object"the CAD system for shaped milling cutter"is a project application software which works with computer aided design and parameterized modeling. Designer inputs primary design parameters, the CAD system software deal with the data and output 3D solid model and its drawing via Pro/ENGINEER system. At last, the paper introduces all sorts of functions of the CAD system software and give an instance of design of shaped milling cutter.
