It is one of the most serious region between agriculture and husbandry interlace zone in north of Shannxi Province that land desertification occurs. Since the 20th century 50's, there has carried on large scale restoration work which take planting trees and growing grass as main measure. Vegetation restoration has been the main measure of land desertification because it plays an important role in conserving soil and water resources, preventing land degradation. Based on soil desertification between agriculture and husbandry interlace zone in north of Shannxi Province, on the basis of theories of landscape ecology, land resource and principle of soil genesic science, through field surveying data and indoor analyzing, the properties of soil physical, chemical and biological characteristics are systemic analyzed about desertification soil of different vegetation cover rate and type, achieving primary achievements and important evolves are as follows:Ⅰ.Soil physical and chemical characteristics in Desertification region have great difference.(1) Compared with the quicksand, the content of silt and clay in soil of coniferous forest, broadleaves forest, and shrubbery all increased, but the content of sand reduced. In sand-fixing layer, the content of coarse sand(1~0.25mm) of shrubbery was obviously higher than that in broadleaves forest and coniferous forest, but the content of fine sand(0.25~0.05mm) of shrubbery was much lower. The content of clay was coniferous forest> broadleaves forest> shrubbery> quicksand. In the lower layer, the content of sand was quicksand > coniferous forest > broadleaves forest > shrubbery, and the content of silt and clay was shrubbery > broadleaves forest > coniferous forest > quicksand.(2) In the surface layer, soil organic matter content is higher than the quicksand, take broadleaves forest as highest, but coniferous forest and shrubbery were the same. The organic matter content in the surface was much higher than that of the lower layer. Soil phosphorus content increased and the rapidly available phosphorus enhanced rapidly. The content of potassium had no difference among shrubbery, broadleaves forest and coniferous forest.(3) Soil urease activity, sucrase activity, catalase activity and alkalescent phosphats activity reduced along with the soil layer. Soil catalase activity of 1 ~ 20㎝ were:...
