Western Modern Design Thoughts Affect Modern Furniture Design

Design, as a survival style, has existed in barbarism society, Modern design has come into being that based on the production style of Industrial Revolution and demands for many people. Modern design tendency being colorful and stylistic varied. This paper mainly went through with many kinds of design movement, design thought and design style as a main clue after Industrial Revolution; used for reference of famous designer and classical works, detailed elaborated the history and characters of modern design tendency. It is analyzed and generalized the influence of between modern design and modern furniture by comparing and collating the peculiarity of design tendency and furniture design in difference period. It was carved up four stages namely nascent period, developing period, mature period and multiplex period. In earlier stage of modern design, furniture design strived for shape concision and nature, emphasized decoration, protested copy. In the formation and developing period, furniture design affected by modern design tendency has led to design concept has changed, "machine aesthetics" opinion has been accepted, new production style has been adopted, new materials, technology and technique have been developed and applied, design went more and more rationalism and reasonable and so on. In the mature period, modern design had affected furniture design mainly on the aspect of the ripe of design theory promoting the formation of furniture design stylistic owned character in each country. In multiplex period, furniture has two different developing track, namely "function furniture" emphasized on the rationalism and "form furniture" emphasized on the sense under the impact of different design tendency. In a word, modern design thought has great impact on modern furniture design, mainly embodied the viewpoint of design, model, decoration, material, production, aesthetic and science and so on , at the same time, modern furniture has affected each other, furniture design has stimulated and promoted to modern design, and impact the theory and practice of modern design. It better analyses the developing history between modern design and furniture design, learn from the experience and lesson, grasp the future of industry design by investigating the effluence west design tendency on furniture design, on the other hand, Chinese furniture industry will design modern furniture possessed national culture and make Chinese furniture flaming by using for reference west modern design.
