Eleven solid quaternary complexes of rare earth perchlorate with diphenyl sulfoxide (L) and benzoic acid (L') have been synthesized and characterized. By elemental analysis, coordination titration and TGA-DTA studies, the composition of the complexes were suggested as [REL5L'(ClO4)](ClO4) ( RE = La,Pr,Nd,Sm,Eu,Tb,Dy,Ho,Er,Tm,Yb; L=C6H5SOC6H5, L'=C6H5COO-). IR spectra, 1HNMR studies indicated that diphenyl sulfoxide(L) bonded with RE3+ ions by the oxygen atom in sulfinyl group while benzoic acid(L') bonded with RE3+ ions by one oxygen atom in carbonyl group which coordinate as a unidentate group. The molar conductivities in acetone solution indicated that two anions are coordinated with RE3+,1HNMR studies indicated that benzoic acid(L') bonded with RE3+ by anion C6H5COO-; one of two perchlorates (ClO4-) is coordinated with RE3+ while another is not. Coordination number of quaternary complexes is 7. Fluorescent spectra of Eu3+, Sm3+, Tb3+and Dy3+complexes showed that quaternary complexes have...
