China is one of the serious desertification countries in world. There are three times survey had been taken since 1994. The newly survey showed, the area of desertification is 2.6362 million km2, it is 27.46% of China total area. The desertification influences every field of China economy.This thesis study on theory and method about desertification calamity economic evaluation, and evaluate the losse of desertification in 2004. Based on theory of calamity economics, calamity statistics, environment economics and sustainable development, using the method of direct maketing, replace maketing and hypothetical maketing; evaluate the influence of desertification in field of land resource, agriculture, pasturing, irrigation works, transport, infrastructure and human health. The losse of desertification is 87,657 million Yuan. It is 0.548% of China's GDP and 8.354% of major desertification provinces'GDP in 2004. It is more than one third of the increasing rate of GDP of those provinces.Government takes lots of measures to combate desertification on serious condition. This thesis study on theory and method about desertification combating engneering profit evaluation.Using the method of comparing analysis, input and output analysis and investment analysis, the profit of Guyuan county desertification combating engneering is 1,100,489,100 Yuan in ecosystem. The rate of input and output is 1:6.59, the total retail of commodity and consumer goods increased 14%, and income of farmer increased 779 Yuan. Famers'live has improved, framework of property has optimized, the chance of an occupation has increased. The mind of farmer has being changed to direct of sustainable development.
