The applications of GC-MS in environment and herbs were studied in this paper. Two parts were included. The first part is the applications of GC-MS in environment. The photodegradation of phenol in wastewater by nanomaterial TiO2 was chosen as the object. The degradation intermediates were identified and the photodegradation mechanism was developed based on the intermediates. The second is analysis on herbs. The alkaloids in Radix Sophorae Tonkinensis were studied; its volatile components were compared with that of Rhizoma Menispermi. In the preface, the applications of GC-MS in environment and herbs were reviewed. This paper consists of three chapters.Chapter one: The applications of GC-MS in environment and herbs were reviewed. The contaminations detection in atmosphere, water, soil and the analysis of degradation route have been illustrated in environment. The analysis of volatile components, alkaloids, saccharides and fatty acids have been illustrated in herbs.Chapter two: The degradation of phenol solution under ultraviolet (UV) in the presence of TiO2 and in the absence of it was analyzed with GC-MS and HPLC. After derivatized by MSTFA and TMIS, the products were analyzed by GC-MS. The results show the main intermediates are the same. The chromatogram given by HPLC indicates that the photocatalytic degradation rate of phenol in the presence of TiO2 does not increase linearly with phenol concentration. Based on the intermediates, the degradation route was given.Chapter three: Radix Sophorae Tonkinensis was analyzed by GC-MS. This chapter consists two parts. Part one is analyzing alkaloids in Radix Sophorae Tokinensis. In this work, we found that there are 15 isomers of matrine, 3 isomers of oxymatrine, 2 isomers of cytisine and methylcytisine in Radix Sophorae Tonkinensis and matrine is the main alkaloid. Matrine was extracted most effectively when CH2Cl2 is used as extractant in basic conditions. Part two is analyzing volatile components from Radix Sophorae Tonkinensis and Rhizoma Menispermi. The volatile components from Radix Sophorae Tonkinensia were compared with...
